The Chicxulub crater (/ ˈtʃiːkʃʊluːb /; Mayan: [tʃʼikʃuluɓ]) is an impact crater buried underneath the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico. Its center is located offshore near the communities of Chicxulub Puerto and Chicxulub Pueblo, after which the crater is named.
